Trying to buy a contract phone

Hi,
I have recently been offered a mortgage by Natwest. The mortgage is not going to start until May/June 2022, until the new build is completely constructed.
My iphone battery has been misearable these days and I am thinking of buying a phone over monthly contract with O2. Is it a good thing to do (starting this buying the phone over credit) now? Obviously it may fetch a hard search on my credit file. Will it affect my mortgage/mortgage lender anyway?

The monthly repayment of contract phone wont impact my affordability as it is just 33 pounds per month

Does the monthly repayment of your contract phone materially impact your affordability? Could you not wait a couple of months, or buy it out-right?0 -
You could replace the iPhone battery, about £50 last time I had one0
