in Cutting tax
Hi all,
I finished my last job on 14th May 2021 and started my new job on 17th May 2021. In my previous job I was office based but working at home due to Covid 19. My employer was paying me a work from home allowance of £18 per month. In my new job it is home based and is not home working due to Covid 19. I do have a designated office that I may work in should I wish. I am not paid any allowance for working from home. Can I claim tax relief? If so how and how does the previous job paying me an allowance affect any new claim?

It’s not clear to me whether you “have” to wfh or “choose” to, perhaps it’s clearer to you.

wrt the 2 jobs. I’d say that if you do qualify you could only claim for 17/5/21 - 5/4/22, not the whole 52 weeks, so it would be a bit less than 52x6 for tax relief purposes.

OK I wasn't aware of the chosen to work from home condition and I think that chose is the key here isn't it. The job I have chosen to do is a work from home job although I could choose to work in the office should I wish but haven't been able to exercise that choice as hey have been closed for covid reasons.
