Most pensions are vested at least 40 % in equities, and almost every stock market is down since December 2021. So pretty much everyone in a DC pension scheme is in exactly the same boat. A boat that has done very well since about 2008. After spending over a decade sailing in mostly calm waters, some people have forgotten it can get a bit choppy out there sometimes."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius1

Unfortunately true. Seems it will be all gone one day

Markets aren't one way bets. You've enjoyed exceptional short term gains. Rather the like Weakest Link. On occasions you need to bank some of the profits. Rather than being greedy and hoping for more.deepam said:Unfortunately true. Seems it will be all gone one day0 -

What happened to not timing the market and staying in for the long-term?A bit of volatility and suddenly the message changes? That can't be right surely?Perhaps you mean sell some units when the price is high and stash the proceeds as cash for use to draw down when the market falls? But is that even possible in a workplace pension? In fact should no-one have a workplace pension and use a SIPP?Your message is very unclear. If you want to be rich, live like you're poor; if you want to be poor, live like you're rich.1 -
No idea - how big is the boat? If you've lost £16K on a £20K fund, that's seriously bad news. If you've lost £16K on a £200K fund, that's far from unusual.deepam said:Hi,

My workplace pension is constantly loosing money since December 21.An economic cycle is around 10-15 years. December was just four weeks ago.
As you should know, investments go down as well as up. So, when you have a negative period, you are just getting what you have had many many many many many times before.I have lost 16K in last two months alone. Is anyone is the same boat? Most investment areas are down.Unfortunately true. Seems it will be all gone one dayHow long have you been investing? A 16k loss suggests a portfolio of a size that didn't just appear overnight. What did you do last year when there was a similar loss period? Or in 2020 when there was the third biggest loss period in the last 25 years? Or in 2018 when there was a crash in quarter 4. Or 2015/16. How about one of the big ones in 2008/9 or 2001-2003 when you had three negative years in a row?
Just think about that. You are posting after several weeks of relatively minor volatility. Wait until you get another 3 years of losses.
Investments zig zag. Always have, always will.
