Still budgeting something for "fun" was precisely how we dealt with our mortgage - overpaying to get shot of it in 13 years not 25. Had we put everything into it from the start in theory we could have paid it off far faster, but actually I suspect we'd have just reached a few years in and been so sick of the whole thing we'd have reverted to contractual payments only.
