Dodgy Tax Agents

I recently received a letter from a tax agent I mistakenly signed up with about 10 months ago. The letter says I'm entitled to a tax refund of £237.86. I have also signed online the deed of assignment giving them control of my tax affairs. I know this was a BIG MISTAKE but it's too late now. I know I'll lose almost half of the rebate but they require me to fill in a form online that asks for my bank details, postcode, NI number and an image of my photo ID. I'm not sure why they'd need my photo ID or for me to resend them the details they already have for me. They won't release the payment without a copy of my photo ID which id concerning. Why do they need my photo ID?

I obviously am writing off half of the rebate as part of the learning process but I now need to cancel/revoke the deed of assignment which requires consent from both parties. Can they refuse the consent on their side?

I'm worried that they have me by the short and curlies so could do with some pointers about the need for photo ID and revoking the deed of assignment.

Yes, but a deed of assignment would normally be tax year(s) specific not everlasting.
