If you have been issued a tax return you do need to complete it and submit it.

    ^^^ this

You are approaching this from completely the wrong angle.

Firstly you should check if you need to file a return today.  Only those people who have been issued with a return or notice to file a return at least 3 months ago have a deadline of today.

If you haven't been asked to file a return then you need to check if you should have been.  If you will be liable to the High Income Child Benefit Charge for 2020:21 then you will be required to complete a 2020:21 return within 3 months of HMRC sending you a notice to file one.  The first step to that would be for you to notify HMRC you will be liable for 2020:21.

Note the payment deadline and tax return filing deadline are different in those circumstances, if you will owe money for 2020:21 you should pay it (even if just a rough estimate) as soon as you have a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) go avoid interest charges.
