Slinky said:Spendless I've just made tea for both of us, the half flask had water too hot to put my fingers in still. I've just noticed a label on the outside saying hot 5 hours, cold 9 hours. It's 8 hours since I filled mine. It's a Tesco stainless steel jobby.
I still have some kitchen cupboards to sort through and will go my flasks and test them out. Any not found to be pulling their weight, can considered themselves fired!
Good idea to pitch share at a car boots to half the costs, just make sure that the other person is on the same wavelength as you when it comes to timings. I once agreed to do one with my neighbour, turned up at setting off time to discover they handed loaded the car at all. We arrived late and it had an impact on the sales!5 -
OrkneyStar said:We are staying at a Premier Inn (have stayed in various places over the years but find this place suits us well). I have paid for breakfast for me for the two mornings (DS won't starve, kids eat free ha ha) - I don't normally eat a lot in the morning but you can bet I will try to eat as much as my little tummy will allow.
The continental breakfast includes jams, marmite, Nutella-type chocolate spread, and peanut butter. If any of those are something DS likes then get a couple of slices of bread (also in the continental section) and just make a sandwich or two at your table. Wrap it up in a napkin and then transfer it to a tupperware in your room.
They also have several types of sweet muffins (chocolate chip, and fruit - possibly blueberry?) so again, grab a couple for your table and then take them up to your room. You could also try taking a little lidded pot with you and any "leftover" fruit salad you have on your table and be decanted in there, since you don't like to contribute to food waste
Obviously I'm not saying "take loads of Premier Inn food back to the island" because that would be stupid. But if DS is the kind of child that gets hungry an hour after he's eaten two adult portions of eggs and bacon then at least you'll have a few extra supplies and you'll have got your moneys worth from your booking."You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.

We have cancelled Netflix and the Postcode Lottery over the last few days.
I'm just heating up my husband's work food for the next couple of days. Plant based nuggets that he can have in bread rolls along with his other snacks and fruit.
I'm also cooking myself some (PB) sausages as I will have some tonight in a sandwich and then eat the rest cold during the week. I was having this discussion on another forum about cold food. I prefer some food cold, like leftover tomato pasta. Some people say they hate cold food.
I am going to invest in a microwave when I move house as that will help with batch cooking. I'm going to make either a veggie chilli or a soup tomorrow for my lunches for the week.8 -

And two wrongs don't make a right. But you know, it's nice to have a moral high horse but I don't expect that's going to last forever when the choice is more difficult between heat and eat. Personally, my morals are fairly flexible, I don't care about having the moral high ground, I like being honest, but if being honest impacted on my ability to live, it would soon be left by the wayside. Also, it has never bothered me what people think of me, so if anyone does want to have a go at my morally flexible outlook, they're welcome to.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi18

Someone way back - sorry can't acknowledge them as it's impossible to find something on a fast-moving thread, suggested a gadget for your car if you have one, to charge your phone there when practical. Seems like a good idea.5

Back when I worked in the City, the company were relaxed about us charging phones at work and making the odd personal call on the company's landlines It was tacitly accepted as a small trade off for the crazy hours and lack of work life balance. It was never official but I didn't feel I was doing anything untoward - it was just another employee benefit. Had there been an official policy saying not to, as there is in a lot of public sector offices where it is effectively the taxpayer picking up the cost ,that would have been a different matterIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!6

I got my phone car charger for a couple of quid off 3bay, it has another space for plugging a separate USB lead in for charging something else at the same time.
@OrkneyStar my OH highly recommends Scottish blend tea as it's designed for the water up here.
T have various biscuits on offer, border biscuits £1 a packet, they were also selling off various food items a lot cheaper than normal; I picked up tins and other staple items, but it varies between stores and I'd suggest taking your time and looking at everything.
