I can see the idea of using vinegar and lemon juice around the taps soaked in a small piece of cloth or kitchen roll, but how about the lime scale that ends up around the spouts of a kettle. I have a kettle I have cleaned the inside ok of deposits but the spout part it seems to have set like concrete. Admittedly its not a kettle that gets used often as I have a smaller one litre one I use daily. I only use the bigger one for filling a hot water bottle in the winter so have dug it out of the cupboard for this winters use

You could try something like lemon juice on some tissue inside the plastic bag or perhaps a specific limescale remover. It will need tying onto the tap as difficult, if not impossible, to keep it in the right place. If you use a limescale remover read the instructions carefully as it will give a length of time to use it for before washing off.linz said:Hi all,
Sorry to derail the boiled veg topic but can someone tell me what I can use to get rid of limescale at the end of my bathroom tap pls? I remember seeing Kim & Aggie do it with a small plastic sandwich bag scrunched up with something in, tied with an elastic band round the tap for a couple of hours but I can't remember what they used. I don't fancy scratching it with a 2p,
Thanks in advance, and now back to boiled cabbage

My local Tesco Express/Metro sells kidneys - I think lamb and also chicken livers.ladyholly said:On that note why have most supermarkets stopped selling offal ecept liver? It is inexpensive and nutritious though I must admit I cant abide tripe. My BiL gets kidneys for me as I cant get them in the medium size town where I live. No one ever seems to think of eating offal yet will buy ready made steak and kidney pies.
They also sell lamb & pig liver, not sure about ox.
From my local Tesco Extra butcher counter, I used to buy a whole lamb's liver and cut it up myself as I don't like the thin strips they had.7 -
I use kitchen paper (torn into small strips) sprayed with white vinegar for limescale on kitchen taps.
I never have any issues keeping it in place.9 -
..or just stick half a lemon over the tap end.Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!11

I know people who go through manic episodes, and others who have real spending problems for other reasons, and I'm certain that anything other than direct payments to the energy companies will lead to trouble for them down the road. Someone close to me used their £400 low income help for upcoming bills on a holiday, despite being very much struggling to pay their monthly outgoings BEFORE the energy price rises. It's really worrying!
A huge difference to many people who are struggling across the board .
£67 Can easily be used up elsewhere
But then maybe it could be argued there's a lot more worthy bills to cover( or food )
I would argue that only those with incomes large enough to cover all outgoings will be able to set this money aside to pay for the increase in fuelProgress over perfection9 -
Longwalker said:Do you have a big plastic mixing bowl? Thats what I use in the microwave.Cut the spuds to size, chuck into bowl, rinse off and dont be careful about draining all the water off. Cover with cling film, pierce a hole and nuke for 5 mins. Remove and test. If some are near tender and others not, give a good shake and give another few minutes. You have to judge this for yourself but I never usually go past 8 mins. Then tip into colander and cover with tea towel to steam and dryYou should be left with cooked through spuds which wont break up when added to hot fatThanks @LongwalkerI do have a mixing bowl, but would have to check if it's MW-proof.I also have a Sistema rice cooker (which I can highly recommend if you fancy a rice cooker but can't afford the electric ones). Wonder if that would work...

I dont have a Tesco express near but the bigger Tesco and Sainsbury near us only have liver. Neither have counters any more so I cant even ask the butcher. I dont have a butcher within my walking distance. It is very frustrating that I have to rely on my monthly visits to BiL.Pollycat said:My local Tesco Express/Metro sells kidneys - I think lamb and also chicken livers.

I use my sistema rice cooker for all sorts of microwave steaming it works really well. Corn on the cobs are especially good.basketcase said:Longwalker said:Do you have a big plastic mixing bowl? Sometimes if I'm making roast potatoes I just nuke the potatoes, whole and skin on, cool them a little and then take the skins off. No excess water to deal with.8 -
Nancy birtwhistle suggests half a lemon (a used one is ok) pushed over the spout and left overnight. I shall be trying it later!London_1 said:
