My neighbour was visited by a political party out canvassing for votes, he asked all about education and tax and other policies for well over an hour.
As the caller was leaving, he asked if he could count on his vote. Oh no said the neighbour, so the caller asked why the interest in the policies.
To which the neighbour replied, whilst you are bothering me, you arent bothering my neighbours.
Not saying I agree with his methods, but I'm not loving political parties at the moment.8 -
Interesting as the last few pages have been, could we get back on topic before the thread is culled?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Came across a large bag of pre sliced peppers reduced to 46p in Morries last night. Nabbed and put in the freezer as a quick and easy addition to stir fries (which avoid using the oven, so save money on cooking too)February wins: Theatre tickets11

I had some carrots left over from a 1kg bag (did us 2 meals first) and half a small swede.
I added potatoes, onion and the top parts of some y/s leeks (the good bits were blanched and frozen), green & red lentils, stock and seasoning.
Bubbled away in the slow cooker.
Made 8 portions of chunky soup.
Do you think I overdid the lentils?
Slice of soup anyone? 😂

One summer straight out of college my youngest was desperate for a job and answered an advertisement, then found herself fundraising for a well known national charity. They were very young people hired by agencies as temporary staff and paid very poorly, they usually had no history with the charity itself. She's very petit and without makeup looks about 12, so did very well. They were set targets and the pressure was incredibly high. That along with long days in the cold on the streets she found it pretty soul destroying. Thankfully, she was soon able to move on to a better job but I always try and be polite if I see fundraisers, remembering how my daughter used to come in the door shivering, and dispirited. Usually I say I've chosen my charity this year and that's all I can afford. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!11

October is nearly over and my grocery budget for the month has over-run by about £8.50, so no surplus cash left.
But I'm not stressed out as I've bought 4 joints of meat this month, all cooked/sliced/frozen, so there's plenty in the freezer for dinners next month (and maybe into December) - 19 meals for 2 in all. Not to mention chicken thighs, bacon, fish, veg, bread, morning goods and home baked cake. The aim for November is to use this, along with store cupboard goods. I'll still need fresh milk, salad and F&V but will be using my budget (less the £8.50 overspend) to stock up on long shelf life replacements and some toiletries (no spares left). And it will make room for Xmas food that I'll be starting on at the beginning of December.
Following last week's power cut, I "think" the TV communal aerial is now sorted (re-set?) after N. Powergrid dug their trench and repaired the underground cable. I say "think" because, as far as we're aware, no-one from the Council has been to look at the aerial but the TV is working as it should be. I'll leave it a couple of days to be sure and then contact the Council to cancel the repair request - no point in someone turning up if it's not needed.
The clocks go back this weekend so we'll be closing the curtains earlier, probably around 3.30pm.I shall be in hibernation mode!
Be kind to others and to yourself too.10 -
