a relative of mine was Manager of a large Charity shop and regularly came home with bags of donated stock which she sold on privately or gave to her teenage children. The volunteers eventually reported her and she was sacked. The Charity did not report her to the police as they did not want bad publicity.
I gather this is not an unusual occurrence and it saddens me because I would like to help.11 -
Forgive me for briefly going off-topic, but I think this is the crowd that'll know the answer
I've just had new carpets fitted, and the guys have left wee tufty fluffy bits everywhere. Will my Henry hoover be alright getting them up or should I sweep first? I don't want to manually sweep first cos there's bits everywhere, but I will if it would mean I don't kill Henry! What have others done?
P.S. I appreciate this is a basic question but I've never had new carpets before....I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.9 -

linz said:I don't like that charity that spends God knows what on The Snowman coasters and Christmas cards that get posted through everyones letterboxes at Christmas. If they didnt spend so much on junk merchandise they could spend more on research. Think its BHF?
I used to volunteer at my local RSPCA branch and they said the national RSPCA branch only gives local branches enough funding for basic animal welfare but any extra the local branches would like such as training treats or toys they have to fundraise for themselves. You do have to wonder where a lot of the money goes if this is the case.
Prosecution cases.
Which is why I stopped my monthly donation and instead put money in my local shop collection tin.8 -
Payday today so have treated myself to some of the washing dolly balls and an extra oven shelf (when I do use it, I cram as much as I can in!). Hoping to save on the expensive eco washing stuff i use with the washing ball things too.

We have 5 charity shops near us and I don't donate to or buy from 4 of them as their prices are way out of line.
The one I do donate to/buy from is for a local Hospice that has a quick turnover of stock since their prices are very reasonable. I also go to their Xmas and summer fairs where they have various stalls, including rather nice baked goods. I bake a lot but it's always nice now and again to have a treat that someone else has made.
We also used to have various charity bods knocking on the door, wanting you to sign up for monthly donations. None for quite a while, probably because of Covid. I'm not keen on this approach so politely decline and close the door before they get chance to launch into their script.Be kind to others and to yourself too.6 -

I think they are termed chuggers. They get paid for each person they sign up; they usually have no particular affiliation to the charity. Sums up a lot of what is bad with the charities, pressuring people to sign up to a monthly payment. Some people find it hard to say "no". Any charity that employs chuggers is automatically on my avoid list.10 -
I have 2 methods of getting rid of people, depending how nawty I’m feeling. If they come to the door - “oh I don’t live here, I’m just robbing the place!”
If they're on the phone or at the door or in the street - in your very best Queen’s English and with a big grin on your face say “oh I’m soo sorray, I don’t speak a wahd of English!” Then hang up.Personally I love the second one.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.15
