I made a mistake.... My gas and electricity contract was up for renewal 28 Feb, I paid €130/month up until then, and was offered €230 fixed or approx € 270 variable. I called them last week of Feb, they were busy and were going to call me back. And then I went to my parents' for a week, waiting for the phonecall, forgetting that I'd called them from the landline. So, now I'm on a variable tariff, which will be even higher than they predicted..

Just get back to them and mention that you're still waiting for the call, and yes, you'd like to take them up on the fix they'd offered. In fact you could even do it by live chat - there's a decent chance they might still honour it and it's most definitely worth a try! (But just check the the "approx" variable figure you were quoted was right first!)Siebrie said:I made a mistake.... I'd sooner have the 'extra' £600pa in my bank account, to be used on other things as required, rather than waiting until the end of the year to get it back AND still funding the other things until it's returned to me.
Life isn't B&W, no one thing works for everyone otherwise there wouldn't be various options.

We'll have to agree to differ. I denounce profiteering and the energy companies are at the top of that list.MovingForwards said:Rosa_Damascena said:

25th Feb it was 84p on Boilerjuice, by 2nd March it was 124p (although I found it for 81p with Certas) and on 4th March Boilerjuice was 129p to be put in an order queue and several other websites weren't even quoting. If you can get it for 84p I would get the order placed as supply is uncertain. Right now, Boilerjuice and Certas are still not even quoting here.C_J said:We will need to order some more domestic heating oil soon, and I see it's now up to around 84p a litre! I'm sure it's only going to get more expensive so I think I had better buy it now rather than wait, much as it pains me to do it.8 -
Would have to agree with Rosa here - cheaper by DD - but I can see the arguments on the other side.Rosa_Damascena said:

MingVase, I've had the dreaded letter from Octopus .... I currently pay £138 per month and I've racked up £187 credit. For a fixed green tariff rate the price would be £431 per month/£5174 per annum. If it wasn't so serious I'd be laughing out loud 😱.
for a variable rate it will be £159.18/£1910 per annum which is better than I expected but clearly there is the associated risk of price rises as and when the provider wants.Still haven't had the council tax letter but a 5% increase equates to around £185 a year for us. We don't live in a palace or even a medium sized mansion 😀 - but we do live in an expensive county in the south east.8 -
Heating oil was 84p/litre on Boilerjuice at 8pm last night, with delivery in two weeks. I should have pounced on that - 24 hours later and it’s up to £1.29 with delivery in about six weeks. I tried my usual heating oil supplier for comparison but couldn’t get through - their phones were engaged all day and I gave up.
Luckily we’ve got enough left in the tank that I don’t need to panic (just yet).7 -
I'm getting very worried for my mum. Her projected energy bills are going to be £150 a month out of her pension, and this is without rent and food.
And with a potential global food crisis on the horizon thanks to the war, we're going to have to try and find some extra money for her somewhere. I'd gladly help out if I wasn't on Universal Credit and just about borderline with everything myself.10
