The Fray Bentos pie in my store cupboard was free so we will make a meal with it. Still eating hm quiche - 3 days in a row but I vary the sides. Mr F is not fussy and every night when he comes to get his dinner says - that looks lovely. His Hungarian Grandfather said it every night to his wife.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Thanks for that @YorksLass - have to admit I was hoping you had a recipe to make the Jalfrezi sauce as I don't really use jarred sauces! Definitely think it's a good basic recipe and would probably add some chickpeas to it both to stretch it and to get a bit of extra protein into it.YorksLass said:@joedenise - Like you, I'm a bit of a "throw it all in" kind of cook so it can vary according to what I have in stock. This is the basic though, to feed 2-3 people - and there might be some left over (depending on portion size) that can be frozen for another day. If it's just a small amount I use it as a jacket potato topping or as a filling for a wrap or pitta pocket with some salad and a dollop of mayo.
200-250g mince beef - dry fry first so you can drain off the fat
1 medium sized onion - finely chopped
1 bell pepper - diced (preferably red, but any colour will do)
Handful of frozen peas
2 medium sized potatoes, diced small
1 jar of ready made Jalfrezi sauce (I like Pataks. The most expensive part of the dish
)
Throw everything into SC and cook on low for about 5-6 hours, stirring occasionally, and add a bit of water if it's getting a bit too thick. Serve with boiled rice or naans. Other suggested additions: handful of sultanas or a small diced dessert apple, half a tin of chickpeas, sliced mushrooms, broccoli or cauliflower florets, sliced green beans - whatever takes your fancy!
I usually just make a keema style curry when I use minced beef but this would make a nice change and a different flavour.

Just googled Jalfrezi & it looks like garam masala one of the key ingredients. (these are both for chicken but I guess you can change that easily enough- curry is absolutely not my thing!!)
have a look at these 2 recipes and see if they would fit the bill:

and this one has 5*

Broadband and line rental going up by 15% a month. Oh joy. Only just signed a 18 month contract in January.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.5 -
Thanks. I actually found some curry pastes to make on the JO site which I've added to my documents folder. Will definitely be giving the Jalfrezi one a go next time we have a mince meal but won't be until next month as this menu plan is already done and most of it is stuff which is already in the freezer!Katiehound said:^^^^
