Bead Cavity Wall Insulation - Advice/experience really appreciated

We have lived in a 'self build' house for the past 20 years (original build around 1985). It wasn't built by us. Unfortunately, we have been told over the years that the cavity space in the outer walls would not allow for 'foam' style of insulation, so we have never progressed at all re insulation. I've now come across, what is probably not a new concept, but bead insulation, which might be our way forward. We live in Scotland in case that is relevant.
Does anyone have any information on what this type of insulation might entail and it's pro's/con's? We are detached and a bungalow. Always a very cold house. We have the attic space well insulated. Better in the rear of the house during the day as this is south facing but the living room and the front bedroom are always freezing. Even, often colder than the temp outside!!
I have only looked briefly online at companies who provide this service, so any advice/experiences would be appreciated.
thanks in advance,
Paula

You need to be careful of rain penetration, if you are in a high rainfall and windy area. Beads would be better than "fluff", as far as not allowing water to bridge the cavity. However, I'd look at external insulation, first, as you will then benefit from the thermal mass of the walls and have a greater degree of protection from rain ingress. It will, almost certainly, be more expensive, though.

Verdigris, thanks for your response. Plenty of rain and very windy here on the East Coast. Blowing a gale as I type. What would 'external insulation' be? Can you suggest some options at all?0
