Poor service but, from what I am hearing, staff cuts have impacted massively on workload and morale is dreadfully low.Jeremy535897 said:
The refund for the current and previous year were almost immediate. The further years have been the subject of several phone calls, two letters and a formal complaint in writing. Neither the letters nor the complaint (itself made over 3 months ago) have even been acknowledged.[Deleted User] said:
That’s pretty grim. My wife applied in April 2020 to apply for 2020/21 tax year and my code was changed within four weeks - think I would be following up.Jeremy535897 said:I am still trying to get a repayment in respect of a marriage allowance claim that was made in February 2020. There is no doubt that the pandemic has made things worse, but HMRC staff numbers have been reduced, and they are sometimes made to work on other things.1 -
It took me 4 letters - none of which were acknowledged, 4 phone calls - all telling me the letters had been recieved and I should wait to hear soon, and one official complaint - before I eventually got an email acknowledgment of the complaint (sent in July and acknowledged in November) and then a response to my original letter (sent in January and responded to in November, a week after the email).Jeremy535897 said:

I was told there was a backlog, but every time I spoke to an advisor they said I shouldn't be waiting this long and they would add a note or chase and get back to me. I never got anything further from anyone, and just waited a while and chased again.
I also requested to be taken off self assessment and have a confirmation of that request from the start of this year, but nothing has happened with that yet either and I'm back to chasing them, saying that I shouldn't have to do a tax return this year.
