Mortgage Broker Gone AWOL.. What can I do?

So.. my issues is this..

A broker helped formalise my application for a mortgage in September. My sellers pulled out in December after accepting the offer in August.

The mortgage deal is still good till the end of March (and better than what I can now get) - but only the broker can amend the purchase address details and he is not responding to email or phone.

I don't know what to do. I rang the bank and they said only he can alter the application. Can anyone advise?

Is it a one man band or is it a bigger business?
Are they local? Can you go their address?

  • I think it's a one man band.. recommended by an estate agent. I'm waiting on them hopefully they will give him a prod.
But is there generally a form of ombudsman for brokers, if you end up having a bad experience? I wasn't sure and it hadn't occurred to me that he might go AWOL when I signed up.

    Thanks!

Hopefully you can get in contact with your broker otherwise might have to start another application.

There is the financial ombudsman. Whilst you can complain about bad service, they can only really step in and help if you have lost money.

Speak to the agents, tell them they recommended a broker who is now not answering your calls or emails and you can not sort out your mortgage.

Does the broker have a physical office you can visit? If a one man band anything could have happened to the broker.
  • Thanks all! He's called this morning following my calling the estate agent a couple of times :)
  • PS He hadn't responded for a month previously - I wasn't totally overreacting!

  • Yup, I would be sacking him off if I could have got a similar rate elsewhere.
