Why do posters close competition posts?

It's a poster's perogative to close a post but it does mean you can't mark it as entered/skipped. Is there a reason for closing a post that I'm missing?

I'm guessing they have just set the end date to 06/01 instead of 06/02 by mistake which automatically closes the post. It's easily done.Wins in 2023 - 35

If the poster makes a mistake when entering the Closing Date field and puts in a date that is in the past, the thread will immediately set as closed. As redfox5 says above, for the thread you show, the poster has probably set the Closing Date as 06/01/2022 by mistake.
I did point this out on your previous post on this subject in Site Feedback.
EDIT: I sent the OP of that thread a PM and they have corrected the Closing Date. The thread is now open.Bob3
