Avios to Nectar points

My wife successfully transferred Avios to Nectar at the end of December on her first attempt. The Avios points were deducted immediately although it took 10 days for the Nectar points to be registered on her account.
I, on the other hand, had 3 unsuccessful attempts before hers to transfer my Avios points. My latest attempt was deemed to be a success but no Avios points have yet been deducted and no Nectar points credited. I await developments.
How is it that Nectar can be converted to Avios immediately?
