dental treatment costs

I'm with the NHS dentist and I need to have a small brace fitted or some work on my top right front tooth. The NHS dentist won't do it. How do I find out what to do and what's reasonable?? I'm on benefits too. Thanks in advance x

What reason has your dentist given for now carrying out the treatment?
Is it because they think it’s not clinically appropriate, or because it’s not a treatment that’s available on the NHS?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

When my kids needed braces the dentist set a report to the health report and the head dentist there either said 'yes', as in the case of my daughter or 'no' as in the case of my son.
Following is on nhs website -
NHS orthodontic care is not usually available for adults but it may be approved on a case-by-case basis if it's needed for health reasons.

A rating system called Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) is used to assess your eligibility for NHS treatment. The British Orthodontic Society (BOS) website has more information about the different grades used for the IOTN.

NHS treatment is available for grade 4 and grade 5 cases. Grade 3 cases are usually judged on an individual basis. NHS treatment may also be available if the appearance of your teeth, jaw or face is of concern.

Orthodontics is not available for over 18s on the NHS unless their problems are so severe they need surgery (orthognathic surgery) on their jaws in conjunction with the brace.
Costs for private braces will depend on what needs doing and what part of the country you are in.

A very, very simple case in a cheap part of the country may cost £1800 , an average case £2500 to £3000 and so on.

NHS treatment is to secure dental health not to make you look better , so if the work you are thinking of is instead of a brace that will have to be paid for privately.
