Gas Engineer Courses fast track.

Hi

Anyone have experience with these fast tracked gas engineer courses?

I'am 34 and would like to get into this career and looking for a way in, any and all help appreciated.

It would be a bonus if anyone could direct me to any companies in Glasgow that maybe looking to take on an apprentice or trainee.

Thanks.

It’s very difficult as there was an influx of people wanting to do this.
I see it’s very expensive to do these courses and they promise all sorts and a out of times do not deliver. Even if you get a placement finding employment with no experience is tricky. Companies tend to want post qualification experience..which you struggle to get.  I still get emails from people offering their time for free to finish their portfolio.
That said, I do know a few people who entered the industry this way and they are absolutely fine.

Try putting a business card/CV in all of the plumbers merchants in your local area, you read a lot of the walls while waiting for parts.

    Thank you sir,

It seems you are right, a lot of posts I'm reading they already want the person they take on to be qualified gas Safe with the appropriate certs in place.

From there on, they are training them. The training course I was looking at is from the Skills TG, they also seem to offer a guaranteed work placement that you need in order to complete the ACS examination.

There about nearly 8k 😱 all in.

It’s the placement you need. Without placement you won’t be able to make your portfolio of evidence. So make sure 100% before you sign up the placement is there for you. It seems the placement is harder than the post qualification job so that’s a major hurdle.
Once you have your tickets you are more employable. And there are people out there who will take you on for less money. Just be methodical and confident.
I have trained and assessed engineers and it’s what I say to everyone.
8k is a hefty amount but It can be done as I’ve seen it!
    Good luck mate.

    Thank you,

I did sign up to one, highly praised and i contacted a couple of people who did it, they also said it was worth it and the training provider provides a guaranteed work placement.

As you 100% put it, to complete the portfolio you need a work placement, maybe that's why they are charging more because of it.

Hopefully (fingers crossed) it all works out.
