Can't complete today :(

Very briefly - for our house purchase, same day exchange and completion was arranged at short notice. Our solicitor sent the seller's solicitor an email on Tuesday saying that we wanted to complete today. Chain-free purchase, buying with a mortgage.
All pre-completion checks etc were all completed by lunchtime and we authorised exchange and completion by about 1:30pm.
Our solicitor got back in touch at 3pm to say that we can't complete today because the seller's solicitor thought we were completing tomorrow and has gone home for the day (despite email from my solicitor to the contrary, mentioned above).
This doesn't really have massive implications for us, the seller has already vacated and we haven't booked removals as we're currently in rented accommodation. We can complete tomorrow. I just wanted to vent a bit and ask the universe at large why some solicitors are so profoundly useless. The financial implications for someone in a more constrained situation than ours could be substantial.

This is why people in a chain should never complete and exchange on the same day.4 -
I feel your pain. We had a similar (ish) problem when we bought ours. Was due to exchange on Monday and complete on the Friday. Monday comes, checking phone all day, eventually got to around 3pm and hadn't heard any news of exchange, rang my solicitor to be told she'd gone home for the day!!
Then get a call from the EA after 5pm to say the purchaser of our house (cash buyer investor) hadn't transferred the money to his solicitor! Then we eventually didn't exchange until the Thursday (!!) for completion on the Friday. I tried to push completion back a few days but our vendors we're having none of it! Thankfully all worked out in the end, but was a stressful 3/4 days!
Just be thankful there is no chain and you don't have to worry about removals on the same day of completion etc.
Fingers crossed all goes to plan tomorrow. Keep us updated!0 -
That's the risk (one of them!) with same day Exchange/Completion.

Could be worse, they have dropped out altogether, has happened, fingers crossed you exchange then complete.0

Same day exchange/completion can be risky especially when you are relying on other people to also be efficient.
Hopefully complete tomorrow without any more issues.
