Smart parking fine

I have recently got a parking fine from smart parking which I believe was wrongly issued, I then panicked and appealed, they rejected my appeal and I then appealed to POPLA with all my evidence. My friends have all told me I shouldn’t have gaged communication with them at all and ignored the letters (wish I did) but it’s to late now. Has anyone any advice on this? If I don’t win the next appeal can I still ignore the letters? Or is it now worse because I have tried to appeal?
All advice is appreciated.
