Clean up advice and mortgage help

Options
Hi there.

First of all long time lurker first time poster and just a moment to say. This bankruptcy forum has been an absolute blessing offering so much support and advice to so many. Keep it going community!

Right so I became bankrupt in October 2017. Discharged October 2018. I left it a long time to clean up my credit report largely thinking what's the point. Eventually when I used Rate My File, I realised many of the creditors listed in my bankruptcy were still registering defaults right up to the present!

I had previously skimmed across the clean up sticky post in this forum and decided it was time to push the button. Letters sent by special delivery to all creditors named in my bankruptcy.

Gave it a couple of months and rechecked. Now I have noticed that all creditors have defaulted me up to my discharge date not my bankruptcy order date. As it stands I'll have another year of waiting for defaults to drop off. I would understand if one creditor got it wrong but all of them? Surely not. I re read the letters I sent out. All the dates were correct. I had attached copies to all creditors of my BR order as well as confirmation of my discharge date. Where do I go from here? Through credit karma i used the TransUnion challenge discrepancy tool but one has already been rejected.

Second question although now I realise this has become a mammoth post! To all my discharged BR folks. What banks/lenders have you had success with obtaining a mortgage with post discharge? I bank with Nationwide but they still won't offer a penny of an overdraft so I'd be shocked if they offered a mortgage!

I am looking to mortgage with my wife who currently is the sole owner of our family home ideally at the end of this year. Any tips and advice would be appreciated!

All you can do is make another complaint, inform them they have marked your file incorrectly, the date of default should not be later than the date your bankruptcy was approved, if they still won`t change it, escalate your complaint to the ICO.

  • Thanks sourcrates. I have been tooing and froing with RBS today. I think the issue may sit with TransUnion. They are the only CRA that have registered defaults up to the discharge date. RBS are adamant they sent out the correct information.

I got my mortgage through a broker who placed it with Loughborough building society. Few hoops to jump through in terms of providing 12 months bank statements and a large and detailed application (which you'd expect given they manually underwrite) but ultimately no issues at all.

I'd be happy to recommend the broker I used (I found him on here in fact) but not sure what the forum rules are around that sort of thing.

If you can that'd be great. I've been speaking to clever mortgages who have offered some hope!

Google 'Mortgage Success Ltd' and speak to Tony. Brilliant guy, top service and the font of all knowledge as far as mortgage applications with adverse is concerned.
