I used my old aluminium pressure cooker to cook some mince beef. Haven't done this for a long time and I must have done something wrong as there is burnt on food on the base of the pressure.

I have soaked the pan with hot water and washing up liquid and managed to get some of the food off using a plastic non stick pan cleaning pad. I used the plastic pan cleaner as I though it would be kinder.

I haven't been able tototally clean the pan, as it's still a bit brown in colour and not as smooth as it was. What else could I use please to get the remainder  off.

A dishwasher tab or powder dissolved into some hot water and leave to soak.  If you don't have any try some vinegar in water and boil it up that usually works.

Biological washing powder, warm water and leave to soak. The enzymes in the powder eat into the burnt on residue and lifts it.

@littlemoney - I don't measure it!  I just chuck in some vinegar and then add probably about twice as much water.  I must you that it absolutely stinks and makes your eyes water so don't get too close to it once it comes to the boil, just turn it down to a good simmer.

For the same reason that it's not advised to wash aluminium in the dishwasher, neither is it good to soak an aluminium pan with it. the strong Alkali oxidise the surface and wrecks it!

I would try a scrubby pan thing plus barkeeper's friend powder. It's brilliant!
