Curry's Refuse to give a Refund on Faulty Goods

I bought a coffee maker from Curry's in May 2021. It has developed a fault so I returned it to Curry's and requested a refund. They refused and offered a replacement or a repair instead. Are they right to do this? I thought my consumer rights entitle me to a refund as the item is faulty. Thanks for any advice folks.

    • You have 30 days from taking ownership of a product (this could be the date of purchase or the date it was delivered to you - whichever is later) to claim a refund if it is faulty
    • After this time you have to give the retailer an opportunity to repair or replace it before you can claim a refund.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Currys have offered a replacement or repair.  They don't have a great reputation in situations like this.

But yes, they're entitled to do what they're doing.

You are only entitled to a full refund within the first 30 days.

As it is over 6 months old, it is actually up to you to prove that it has failed due to an inherent fault, rather than from being mis-used, so if they are automatically offering a repair or replacement without asking for a report to verify the fault, then this is good news! Accept the replacement!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I'd have to say I have never had a problem returning stuff to Currys for a replacement or a refund - even if bought in store.  The last item was a change of mind refund on a TV in store.

I sometimes wonder how much of a difference it makes how you approach the problem initially.  Do people sometimes have too much "attitude"?
