That's an excellent amount on the car insurance! I was ridiculously over-excited when I got mine for £250 this year (inc business use and no legal cover), but then people do keep driving into me 🙄
    Oh how annoying!!

Yes, £250 would be pretty good after that 😊👍

He cheated and dragged me to the back of his van saying, “There’s no way I can hide these so you’ll have to have them now ….”

What a star. I was so chuffed, and he was happy that I was happy …. ❤️😊

No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... Liking your 50% LTV target and with your OPs it seems inevitable you will get there. If you both have steady jobs then I would  get yourself to a OK savings amount and then be OPing as much as possible so you in the best position possible to remortgage
Oh my word …. It’s LwaP!! I’m in 2021 on your diary (you are seriously getting into batch cooking and about to buy a freezer) - it’s like having a celebrity commenting on my muddly little thread! 😊❤️👏

Just saw this ha! I dont think.. ;)  (Channelling Davina del Campo here) ;))
Your thread is great and how brilliant your partner is now fully on board.

I ended up getting a fridge freezer for free from my neighbour - it was amazing having 2 with all my batch cooking but I turned it off when I went away and now with energy prices it is off and sat in my study!

That YNAB book sounds like its lessons you already know but always good to have a reminder.. especially asking yourself where you want to spend your money.
I still have dozens of savings pots in 2 banks - I understand why you'd want to put it all together for the interest but I am never that on top of my spreadsheets so would quickly lose the plot ;)

I have had a £500 brick colouring drawing for my deposit  since 2020 - very motivating ...- sadly its been slow progress this year with all my delayed invoices but it is always fun to colour in a new brick! I hadnt thought about the interest issue though once I actually get a mortgage

@LadyWithAPlan "Your thread is great and how brilliant your partner is now fully on board." Thank you :) and not quite but there is a significant shift which is looking promising .....

It shifted my perspective and crystallized things just that little bit more. It's taken me a while for me to fully absorb it - it's like the 'back of my head' has been quietly working on it and whole heap of confusion just fell away about it, in just the last few days. I'm really excited to have the time to rework my tracker completely over Christmas now  :) (and yes I know I'm a sad-sack, but I don't care!  :)

S'funny how we all have different talents for discipline - I have no issue at all with having all my savings in one lump and tracking the pots just on a spreadsheet, but the groceries / food discipline you have, would have me scratching the walls down .....!  ;) (However, this *is* something I need to start to try to emulate .....)

Maybe you could enjoy the inverse of the interest issue until you get a mortgage and track every £500 of interest earned in a different coloured 'brick' (I am favouring sparkly purple!  ;) )?

Mr KK went to look at all the bike bits today and it’s a dead duck …..

There was only 1 engine and everything was in really poor condition (forks all pitted, would need striping back, rechroming and new seals, the fairing sections all damaged - repair and professional repaint job, all brake discs worn, every instrument panel had a missing switch or another issue, etc etc). Mr KK was hoping he could get one good bike out of it all and then sells the rests as lots at auction but it looked like this had already been done and the extra engines had been sold too, so basically what was left was mostly junk. He walked away.

On the way home he and his mate popped into Silchester Roman fort to eat their butties and then detoured on the way home to look at Aldermaston, so he ended up having a road trip / day out with a mate with some military history / topics thrown in …. 😉😂🤷‍♀️😊

Ah well, I think he made the right decision and the intention was still there 😊

Hello 👋 I’m still alive, it’s just all been a bit hectic!

I have some financial stuff to catch up on and then I will do a round up here.

A quiet but much food-based day yesterday (inevitably! 😂).
As Mr KK’s parents didn’t come over today (they have horrible lurgies and Mr KK didn’t want to catch them) we were able to spend the day outside. Mr KK decided to help me move my cubic metre of composted bark so a job that normally takes me on my own, 3 days, was done in one! (I suspect he was making sure the bag was clear from in front of the garage so he can get his mate’s Jeep out once completed … 🤔😂😉). Rebarked the paths down to the compost heap and the waterbutt, around the veggie beds that are barked and down the side of the greenhouse. Awesome. 👏

I cleared a path through the fuschia that is taking over the world on the side of the house and soaks us every time we walk past it. Also cut the centre of a dead prostrate viburnum out - it looks dreadful now, so it’s coming out and the fuschia can be rehomed there along with a winter honeysuckle that I need to find a home for. We will extend the bed outwards slightly which should also help the Japanese maple in that bed.

Harvested some leeks - I was amazed that they withstood all that cold and snow we’ve had, and made leek and potato soup from them 😊

Broke my stainless steel hand fork! (I didn’t know this was possible! 😳) so shall be using my MiL’s present to me of gardening vouchers to replace it! 😊
