Government gateway login issues

Trying to log in to government gateway to do my tax return but the two-factor authentication just isn't doing anything! Anyone else having the same issue?
Legitimately get no calls or SMSs from the service and whilst they offer a 3rd option of an 'authentication app' there's no guidance as to which app(!). Pure rubbish

Can you log in through GOV.UK Verify?

PS Both Government Gateway and GOV.UK Verify are working fine for me right now to log in to my Personal Tax Account online.

I rebooted an old phone and used a different number. worked quickly! for some reason the whole system didn't like my current phone number. done for now, but would be good to work out why as there doesn't appear to be any blocking on my phone sideSchool is important, but Rugby is importanter.0
