@RHemmings, I hope you had a good journey? I will admit to an envious twinge when I read you were writing from the airport. Brings back memories.
Thanks for the recipe, too. I will look out for the ginger and garlic cubes which I don't think I've seen round here, but I could always try it with fresh. It looks like something we'd eat.
Over here, I've used up a packet of sausages and some red pesto, and added more salmon to the freezer. I have milk to use up today which will probably go to make yogurt. Does anyone know if the 1 litre packs of Yeo milk have Yeokens on? I only buy Yeo when discounted (and at hotel breakfasts) and I garner all the tokens I can, but I've never been able to find them on the tetra packs.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Thank you RHemmings that brilliant, I shall try that when i'm back in the New Year to help use up some of my large tinned stock of chick peas accumulated this year because I had been poorly and spent sometime in hospital
I have an awful lots of chick peas, tinned potatoes and tomatoes to use up if I can, and using up as much as I can as I'm hoping to move in the spring and certainly don't want to be packing tins of stuff with me.
Plus using it up means I don't need to keep shopping and buying more

I got xmas priced veg from Ald1s, one of each of the super 6, except carrots. Got those with the lovely green leaves from market. Hope it last till monday. Most of the veg to be blanched and frozen.
Ms C took out some white fish fillets for lunch and i took out some ham for dinner sandwiches. It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.5 -
Last of the fish fillets for lunch with last of whipped cream and some mushrooms.
2 portions of ratatoulli.for dinner and lunch tomorrow. Also found a portion of cooked barley in shed freezer. Will add to veg.
The slow cooker loaf has gone quite hard, will do croutons for freezer to add to soups.
Got bread flour to have another go once the current shop bought loaf has finished. It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.4 -
Out: two portions of salmon.
In: 1 large sea bass and (drum roll please) the Christmas veg! I noticed there are lots of sprouts left at Lidl compared with other veg.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Counted up all my HM ready meals for after the New Year for when I come back home, and in the freezer there are at least 18 that I can see apart from stuff that I can adapt to make more (I seem to have a fair amount of chicken quarters/breasts/ thighs in stock plus some cod pieces as well .
So hopefully January's food bill will be literally fresh fruit and some veg. Fingers crossed I will have some surplus cash to go into my Happy Cash Stash that I use for treats for my family.
Running down the cupboards and freezer this month meant using, mainly already in stock stuff, and defrosting some stuff to make the ready meals that I batch cooked.
January is a cold and miserably long month, and I never feel much like standing cooking in the kitchen so I like to stack up in the freezer enough meals that can be removed, defrosted whizzed in the microwave and I then enjoy catching up on all the films programmes etc recorded on my TiVo box
In the warm sitting room with my knitting I think I semi hibernate in JanuaryI'm more of a spring and summer person I loathe the cold dark days of winter. Looking out at my winter garden is just too depressing Every December I stock up on my stash of HM ready meals and hunker down until the light days start to arrive .
Plus of course this coming year as I'm hoping to move house I'm doing my best to use up some of the over stocked food bits .My tinned stuff is slowly reducing and I've a bit more wriggle room in the freezer now.
January is also not a great month weather wise for me to be out and about, if we get snow or ice, as I have mobility issues and need a stick to walk with.
Walking in the bad weather means a higher likelihood of a fall, so having spent a couple of months this year in hospital I certainly don't aim to be going back any time soon. I am happy to burrow down and wait out the cold and icy blast of January and wait for the lighter, nicer days
I hope everyone has a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Healthy New Year, and manage to reduce some of you stock in your cupboards as I certainly hope I do
Take care chums

I have a small 'emergency' cupboard of tins and packets for if I'm ill or the weather is bad. It's surplus to kitchen stocks and is supposed to mean I can feed us for a few days without risking my neck on icy pavements or pushing myself to shop when I feel rough. However, I think it's got sadly out of balance unless we want to live off jam!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Cherryfudge, that's true I seem to have far too much jam indoors, I shall be using some of it up this winter, I always have honey in the house as I use it instead of sugar when stewing soft fruit, but my rice puds are going to get a dollop of jam now.
I remember I used to enjoy a jam and banana sandwich years ago when times were a bit lean so I may use some up like that . I could make a stack of jam tarts for my grandsons as the four boys seem to have hollow legs.
I was given some "alcoholic' flavoured small jars of jam earlier this year that I may try with some crackers and cheese after the holiday for a change Its definitely going to be used up what ever
The way I think there are far too few beds available to be cluttered up with daft old ladies who go out in the icy weather then fall over and break something, so I'm far better off snuggled under my electric throw with a cup of hot chocolate, than make unnecessary work for the NHS. So I am quite happy to eat what ever I find in the cupboards
