Best Xmas Shopping Trip, Ever!

I went extreme shopping on Monday. I had a list, I needed to stick to it. had a budget, I *really* needed to stick to that!
I came home with Xmas shopping all done, an empty purse and a very warm feeling inside, knowing that it was all fully paid for - no nasty bills in January. No finding out I'd overspent by a 3 figure sum. No need to worry about it for another second :j

Nothing wrong with a tenner - I set my bar around there too. You can get some nice gifts for a tenner!0

Well done:T Its great knowing you wont have to hide from the bills in the new year.
To be honest I think if everyone set a limit 5 or 10 pounds a lot more thought would go into the gift.
Christmas is for showing we remember each other and showing it with a small gesture.Birthdays on the other hand well thats your BIG day when you get the gifts & attention just for you.:rotfl:Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0 -
I remember about 4 or 5 years ago, while up to my neck in debt, I had to deal with my "demanding" wife acting more like our toddler kicking up a right fuss as she was not going to get many presents  ..... OK, OK I know I could have dealt with it better , but I ended up increasing my M&S and John Lewis store card by another few hundred quid  and she was happy.
So I delayed the inevitable by a few more weeks , however that was the last Christmas that I had to deal with that type of outburst  now all I get is an 8 year old wanting things
The last few years have been much much better, I gladly go without so that my Daughter can have a nice Christmas and Birthday twice a year. As far as I am concerned it is for "the kids" and I do not expect anything from any adults and likewise I hope.0 -
I received some junk mail today, from Provident, offering me a quick £500 at extortionate interest and payable by weekly collection from a man calling at my door:eek: .
Just how many cash-strapped souls get sucked into this sort of thing at this time of year. It makes me so cross :mad:keep smiling,

I haved saved so much money this year by having to be very selective about what I buy and how I can spread my money out.. It's been a real eye opener..!
I have in the past got things off eBay for presents (new things) and this year I have had to look a bit harder at things and it's amazing how much stuff I have got cheap.
I have also made some of my own presents. Including planning on getting a plastic/glass jar (cheap hopefully!) and fill it with homemade shortbread biscuits - really cheap to make! and it's the homemade touch !
I also made my own xmas cards this year and used up the old ones from last year that were left over..
All in all I have done really well and I feel that it is my first lesson learnt really.. done spend money just for the sake of it..
Ahh.. the joy in saving money now I don't have any debts..
