STATE PENSION AGE FOR A WOMAN BORN 03/10/1957

My sister in law asked for a State Pension forecast. When this arrived it said she will receive her state pension from 04/08/2022 which means her state pension age is 64 years 10 months and 1 day. She expected it to start from age 66, which is what everybody else (including friends who work in the pensions industry) have told her. Indeed, the UK Govt website gives a pension age of 66 when you enter her date of birth of 03/10/1957. She rang the pensions office to query and they said the forecast letter is correct! She still did not believe this so wrote to them on 28/10/21, repeating her concerns and asking for written confirmation. They have not replied. Can anyone explain how her state pension can commence at such an early age - and advise me how she can get the Pensions Office to reply? Thanks.

It is indeed 66.  DWP must have her date of birth recorded as 4 August 1956 for this to happen.

Likely that the person she spoke to was a junior, who couldn't get past 'the computer says'.  I would ring again, in the hope of getting someone more experienced/sensible.

Has she done an online check to see what information pops up? That will confirm the DOB DWP have for her: https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pension

As Silvertabby says, they've obviously got the wrong date.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

66 is definitely correct for the DOB stated.  She does need to make contact with the Pension Service and check the DOB they have on her record.

Problem with that is if DWP believe that this lady's DOB is 4 August 1956, and she tries to register using 3 October 1957, she won't get very far.  Still think that she will need to ring them first, then be prepared to send in a copy of her birth certificate if they ask for it.  Alternatively, does she hold a passport?  If so, (and assuming that her date of birth is correct !), then DWP may be able to import the date from those records.
