Argos sale price refund - anyone experienced it?

Last Wednesday I bought a games table for Christmas for our son. It was £89.99 plus the home delivery charge. Today I noticed it was half price £44.99 and so rang Argos Direct to arrange collection and a re-order, it is a home delivery only item. I was completely taken by surprise when the lady explained that the item had to be retained for 30 days and then I was to ring to confirm my 'sale price refund'. She told me the refund could not take place before the 30 days as the refund would not show, thus I could have half back today and the full amount back tomorrow? All sounds rather odd. I have her full details & tel number but would be interested if anyone else has heard of this?

I've never heard of anything like it!! Sounds like she was fobbing you off there. You can't return an item after 30 days, sale or not! If I was you I'd arrange a collection and refund then order it again later on.0

That's what I thought. But she told me that I have until 24 January to return the item as it comes under the Christmas returns. She also told me that the call was recorded and gave me her full name and department. She said she had updated my sales record to that effect. It just sounds so bizarre.0

Just had this email. Have also found another thread on same subject.
This needs bringing to peoples' attention as you could claim the lower price after 30 days (but not sure how much longer).
Here is my email
Dear xxx,
Subject: Order Number xxxxxx
Thank you for your e-mail regarding price difference refund on the above above order number.
I can confirm that it is company policy to request our customer to wait until the 30 day money back guarentee has passed to issue a price difference refund.
Please accept my apologise for any inconveniences this may cause you.

how did you do with that returns
I bought iteddy about 3 month ago, full price at £60 unopened, and now its 1/2price.. can i take it back for credit note refund? only want the £30 back as i want the iteddy but means i can get a couple extra things for the little one!0 -
it applies to argos direct (ie delivery items) not store items.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

This policy sounds right to me, I think you may just've misunderstood.
Basically, you bought the item at £90 and are asking Argos for £45 back. They are saying that you can have your £45 at the end of the 30 day period, simply to ensure that they don't give you £45 now and then have you return the item for a £90 refund, thus losing them £135 overall.
Hope that makes sense?

hmm..just wondering , what happens if argos put the price back up to £90 during the 30 days?
would they then say your not entitled to the refund? they do have a lot of deals that only last a weekend or 7 days and then go back to the original price..,. 0 -

In theory they could wait for you to phone after the 30 days is up then refuse to honour it, but in practice they don't. It would be very bad PR to trick people like this and it's in Argos's best interest to send it after the price has gone up because it would cost them more if people returned goods and bought them to get the discount.0 -
No, I clarified this. The price I will get is the price the item was when I rang. Because it was an Argos Direct order there is a order on the PC which has been updated with the price I queried and which date I will ring for my refund and how much the refund will be. The second guy I spoke with (who confirmed this via email) also said that if I rang between now and then with a lower price, that would be the final price. So if I keep looking btwn now and 4 Jan, if it goes lower I ring, if not then I don't.0
