What Small Things Will You Do This Week? 27/12/21

Options

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation.  These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important 😀

Evening Bagpuss, (and anyone else who happens to be reading) :)
Continuing with my mission to clean neglected murky corners of my house, of which there seem to be many. Today I cleaned the kitchen door to the conservatory. Now that doesn't sound much, but it is a fiddly thing with lots of ledges and a little window. It is a stable door which would have been the door to outside before there was a conservatory there. Now sparkling, with a wire wreath thing (which I also washed) hanging on it. I won't mention the rather less decorative peg bag which is also hanging on it :D  I will have to find a new home for that!
I also repurposed a plastic basket thing which was lurking around, gave it a wash and it is now in the airing cupboard to contain spare clean sponges, face flannels etc.
Apart from that, we walked the dog first thing, and went to see DS and his GF this afternoon, as two of his grown up kids were there. It was nice to see them :)
Lunch was sandwiches made from the last of the cold roast beef cooked on Christmas eve, and dinner was a jacket potato with various leftovers from the freezer. I will have to cook something else tomorrow. Preferably something veggie!
I have set myself the job this evening of writing all the family birthdays, plus more mundane things like imminent dental appointments on the new calendar.
Nothing very interesting here I am afraid!

    Evening all :)
I didn't sleep at all well last night, so don't seem to have done much today:
Dog walk first thing - he wouldn't walk far as it was raining a bit (he doesn't 'do' rain)
Load of washing, which is on the airer as it has been rainy all day. Except for the small bits such as socks which are on hangers suspended from the wooden parrot brackets which hold up the mantelshelf :D  Hope we don't get unexpected visitors :D
Did the shopping - walked with my trolley instead of using the car, as I didn't need to buy much - some fresh fruit, onions, bread, some meds and a few ingredients. Might need some milk before the milkman comes again, not sure as the timings are all over the place because of the bank holidays :#
Made a veggie lasagne using items from the larder, fridge and freezer. It was yummy, and there is enough for tomorrow too :)
Had brussels sprouts with it, as I had some left and they need using up. Slightly unusual accompaniment, but we like them, so no worries. There are enough of those for tomorrow as well :D
No heating on all day, but we have the stove alight now. Kettles are on for 'free' hot water.

Exciting plans @jadewest94. I like my air fryer too. Mine is a Ninja Foodi one, and does other things too, such as grilling. It must be cheaper to run than putting the main oven on, I should think.
I like this time of the year, planning for a new year. I never make new year resolutions (I know I wouldn't keep them :D)  but everything seems new, sort of like a fresh start! I have set up my new budget spreadsheet, bought a new spending diary from Poundstretcher - I didn't buy a pretty one online this year, started as I mean to go on, and only spent £1.49 on it :D Also wrote all the family birthdays on the new wall calendar I got for Christmas :)
Also been organising stuff around the house, and cleaning out murky corners, of which I seem to have a lot. I cleared out the bottom of the airing cupboard today, and put some items in the eaves cupboard in the loft conversion, right at the back, as my smallest GCs like playing and making dens in there.
Used up leftovers for meals today - I am determined to spend very little on groceries during the next month or so, and use up some of my larder stuff, and the freezer contents. Also toiletries and cleaning products!
Also made a pannetone in the breadmaker. It isn't much like a pannetone to be honest, but is very nice, like a rich fruit bread. Had some warm for pudding, and I reckon it will make great toast.
