Ha, Pumpkin is an excellent shetland pony name 😂 We have names lined up for the llamas we're never going to get as well (Hattie and Bingo) 😂
Chicken run partition is well on the way now - there's a door and all the wood is in place, just need to staple the chicken wire to it, which will be easy enough in the morning now we've found the staple gun. Pleased we've managed to do it all from stuff that was just lying around, nothing new bought at all 😊
Chickens were NOT impressed with my shenanigans 😂 I shut them in the inner half of the run, and they stood on the perch and shouted at me the whole time 😂 They're going to be even less impressed when the new ladies turn up tomorrow!
Feeling quite chilly and in need of a bath now.9 -
Good luck with the new chickens, how exciting!6

I'll tell you the same as I've told them - no more livestock (other than chickens) until I've retired! 😂 (and by then I might fancy either a holiday or a move back to the city - possibly both!)6 -
Morning MSE chums 😊
Final stages of chicken run separation are underway and almost complete. Good job as (a) I need to leave in about 20 mins, (b) we've nearly run out of staples for the staple gun 😂
I'm pleased with what we've done actually - while it's all reused materials, it's much less lashed-together than the past few times. Even last time, when we had the same amount of space, we ended up with something quite ridiculous that involved us having to CRAWL in and out of the door- literally crawl. Not this time though!
Just need to clean out and refill spare food and water, and top up the spare nest box with bedding, and we're laughing - and if necessary those things can be done when we come back.
Will report back later with photos 😁9 -
Good luck Cheery! I hope the new chickens soon appreciate their good fortune

Thank you all 😊
We are home (with chickens, as planned, not llamas!) 😊 Old chickens have expressed their displeasure 🙄 Of the new ones, one seems lively and cheerful, and the other seems very quiet and tired 😕 I hope it's just because she's had a very long day, rather than underlying illness 😕 Usually they'd have them all out at the rehoming centre, and would keep any that looked a bit poorly back for special attention - I hope that hasn't gone by the wayside under the restrictions 😕
Anyway, all fingers crossed she makes a full recovery and is lively in the morning. Otherwise we'll be left with just one new one - not remotely ideal, and a situation we discussed at some length just yesterday when I was fretting a bit about just getting two 🙄 Hope that wasn't some kind of premonition 🙄
Hey ho. We've sat with them for a bit, and now left them to settle in - they'll all be off to bed soon anyway (separately, for a few nights) so we'll check the new ladies are warm and comfy in a bit, and then just cross our fingers and hope for the best 🙄9
