Note that this pension will be payable before your Wife's State pension age (66).  65 at the latest.
That's helpful to know, that it will be paid automatically when she reaches 66.
That's not what @Silvertabby said!  Payable by 65 (not her SPA of 66) and no mention of automatic....
That's right, esk. I didn't mention that I went to this page which says: "When you leave the Scheme, your pension will be deferred if you have either:
    • more than 2 years qualifying membership
    • less than 2 years in the Scheme, but have transferred a personal pension into the NHS Pension Scheme

This means the pension you have built up will remain in the Scheme. It will be paid when you reach your normal pension age."

It's the last sentence that is relevant, and since she was born in 1957 her state pension age is 66.
Doesn't that mean 'normal pension age' in the sense of when NHS pensions are payable, rather than state pension age?

Good question! This Unison page says "The age at which benefits can be claimed without reduction for early payment (normal pension age (NPA)) is the same age as your State Pension Age (but cannot be lower than 65)." That is under a section about the 2015 scheme; maybe someone can confirm if NPA=state pension age also applies to the 1995 scheme?

Thanks - I missed that post by @ggmf. His/her link does not work but I found it as this https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/sites/default/files/2021-07/AW8P%20%28V20%29%20-%2007.2021.pdf.
I still think deferred pension age under the 1995 scheme for someone born in 1957 is 66, the same as state pension age. Can someone confirm or correct this?

But not if you have left the NHS and your pension is deferred.

See my 12.35pm (edited 12.37pm) post.
  • That form states

Retirement based on your age. You can claim this if you have reached the normal pension age 60 for members of the 1995 Section,

I think that's for people still working for the NHS - not those who have left and had their pension deferred.
