It's been a difficult year, my ex-husband died suddenly in April, leaving our son, who was nearly 21, fatherless. So this year although we have presents, I will be very grateful for all we have.9

Our church candlelit carol service and the Nativity service - cost nothing but very christmassy. I also enjoyed working with the children's group at church decorating a tree for our (delayed 2 years due to COVID) first Christmas tree festival, instead of the kids dressing the tree with plastic tat, we have made decorations out of salt dough, home made star and paper chains and really had fun! Yes it's an artificial tree with lights but the rest was crafted and it was great to see the kids enthusiasm.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"8

Last 7th December my OH brought home a starving, scared bag of bones and snap. A sighthound who had been tied to the train tracks and left to die of starvation or exposure. Fortunately he was found by folk working on the tracks................He was food protective, terrified of being touched and covered in healed burns and breaks.
After a year and a LOT of work our beautiful Barra is safe, secure and a loving big snugglebug with a weakness for my cheese on toast.
So vet costs apart I guess he was free to a good home and came in time for Christmas.

I love Christmas lights - locally there are some that make a real effort with their homes - and best of all was hearing the church bells ring loud over the locality at 5pm on Christmas Eve. So there is a cost of people's time and goodwill, but it's wonderful that some are happy for others to enjoy.
Part of me dreads the time Christmas will find itself cancelled but the other part is consoled that it won't be in my lifetime. We need an end-of-year lift, regardless of faith, and for me Christmas is just that.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.3 -
Adent calendars and a selection box. I wasn't allowed these as a child and although I'm not at home for Christmas they are packed for me.
When I have been at home a friend and her son (cones for chocolate swop) who has special needs used to save pinecones and cut greenery for my mantel for Christmas, I used to hide the small chocolate Lindt bears in the greenery for the little ones to find, it was a delight to see them searching for the 'Bears in the woods'.
