Got up really early as I couldn't sleep, and made the mistake of going back to bed for a while a bit later. Felt vaguely headachey ever since - serves me right. But I have:Wrapped presentsMade sandwiches to use up stray fridge bits and pieces at lunchMade braised red cabbage and froze most of it (got a 19p red cabbage in Mr S the other day)Made sticky toffee pudding, which was one of the desserts requested by DS, who is hosting tomorrow, and cooking the roast.Popped a card through neighbour's door, I had forgotten till now.Cooked a roast dinner - which I thought was a bit much as we are having Christmas dinner tomorrow, but OH's argument was that if we did, there would be cold meat left over for Boxing Day... Included some of my braised red cabbage and a couple of home grown parsnips.Now listening to carols from Kings - I will need to do the washing up, unless OH decides to do it instead.0

Good evening everyone and Merry Christmas
I hope everyone has had a lovely day, I've had a mostly quiet day as my son went to his Dad's at lunchtime today so it's just been little old me and I've really been reflecting on money and looking into the new year, hence why I'm here this evening when most people are probably having a lovely family Christmas! Haha
So today I've done a few things;
- Made my new finance spreadsheet for the new year
- Managed to re-jig things and pay some extra to my DMP which makes my DFD a little sooner
- Started doing some surveys, aiming to make £200 out of surveys at some point next year, as and when!
- NSD #2
- Ate some bits out the freezer that needed using up, no Christmas dinner over here haha
- Am currently looking online at switching my current account to one of these incentive offers, looking into it!
Anyway, I hope everyone has had a lovely day! xDebt free once - Back again | Current debt: £2479.50 - January 2025 | Make £2025 in 2025 #11 - £41/£20252 -

Happy Boxing Day everyoneYesterday was a bit fraught at times, due to a difficult relative (we all have them, don't we?) whose loud voicing of various conspiracy theories led to occasionally stilted conversation, which was a shame, as DS and his lovely GF had gone to a lot of trouble and prepared a fantastic meal. Anyway, relaxing at home today with just OH and the dog. Between relaxing, I have managed some useful jobs:Good dog walk this morning, free exerciseSorted the fridge out a bit. Froze some left over beef gravy, and a pack of smoked salmon which wouldn't get used by its date. Used up some bits and pieces at lunch.Made a batch of lemon curd as I seemed to have lots of eggs and lemons. Nice thing to have in the fridge.Given the hallway a good clean. I need to do the floor once OH has finished cleaning his walking stick stand out there, but I have:Cleaned the chandelier (not as posh as it sounds, a B&Q special ages ago, but fiddly and a real dust magnet
)
Washed down the front door and the skirting boardsGot rid of cobwebs and dusted the pictures and tops of door framesCleaned the window above the door into the sitting room. Our house is Edwardian, and has the original old pine internal doors. This particular one has a strange window above it, which opens onto cast iron support things, and it gets filthy! And I hardly ever think to clean itNot moneysaving this bit, but I have just ordered a replacement tablet for GD, as the Amaz*n one I had got her for Christmas doesn't support the games that she wants. Not one of the expensive fruit ones, just an Android. I didn't know about these particular games, or I would have ordered a suitable one in the first place. She had an old Amaz*n one before so I assumed she just wanted a newer, faster one of those. Sending it back doesn't feel right, as I bought it some time ago and it has been played with (yesterday and today), so I will keep it myself to replace our old one that OH broke a few months back. I will use it, I haven't borrowed money to buy it (or the replacement), but I don't want GD to be disappointed. Went through Quidco for cash back, and got a reduction due to the sales. I will recoup the extra cost from the grocery budget this month, as I need very little. I have loads in, the freezers are rammed, and I need to use stuff up. I will only need the odd ingredient and some fresh stuff for the next few weeks.Dinner tonight will be cold beef from the fridge, jacket potatoes and home made coleslaw, which I had better get on and make!
