Sister and I are going to open a two persons syndicate.  Sister cannot buy a ticket because she lives abroad.  She is hoping to live in the UK in the future.  She has a  bank account here.  I rang lottery and the rep said syndicate members have to live in the UK but I am not sure if rep is correct.  I  see no reason why, if we win, I can't put half the winnings in Sister's bank account.

she wouldn't be a recognised as a legal winner, so even if she paid you half and then you won, if you did win and you kept the winnings i don't think she'd have any legal claim to it, It would be down to you to give it to her with out it being legally enforceable. I think you would just have to play as a lone player and just give her half with out opening the syndicate

Effectively you would be giving her "share" as a gift to her so inheritance tax etc could potentially come into play which it wouldn't for a "legitimate" syndicate member

Would a Euro-Millions syndicate be a better option for us?

Still need to be a UK resident for Camelot - but as the chances of winning a really large sum are soo small it's hardly worth worrying about - and as long as you live at least 7 years after giving IT should not be an issue
