I was sick from work. I couldn't physically hand over the work keys to my employer. So I asked someone else to go to my workplace and give the keys to my work colleagues. Apparently, there is something written in the contract that doesn't allow that to happen for security reasons. Is this a dismissal offence? Or will I…

Who was the somebody? While the policy may well say the keys can't be given to any third party, in practice, if it was someone such as your spouse, rather than a neighbour or friend, it may be seen as less serious in practice.

However, as others have said, only your employer can say whether they will take formal disciplinary procedures and if so what the outcome will be.
