Sky won't let me cancel

Well it resolved it for my Mum in that she got her contract cancelled without any kerfuffel
I'm not saying it won't work, just that you could be breaking the law, and you aren't really giving Sky a chance to sort their system out to accommodate this kind of problem. Also, you are then in the wrong, whereas at the moment you are in the right, so if there are any repurcussions long-term, you might regret taking the easy way out when it leaves you without a leg to stand on.
OP - is the account they are taking money from in joint names, or in your name? If it is in your name, and the Sky account definitely isn't then you could try contacting your bank to find out what would happen if you cancelled the Direct ebit/standing order. I suspect that if the bank account is yours and the Sky account is his, they won't be able to do anything!0 -

lol, have you ever had dealings with Sky customer services before?
Trust me, after 10 minutes, you'd be pretending to be my Dad too"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Sky are a pain in the backside about things like this, our account is in my husband's name and the payments from our joint account but they just ask him to call back if I try to deal with any problems over the phone.
Just cancel the payment, do it online if you have online banking.0 -
I agree with Butlers 1982 - the advice some high ranking customer service type person once gave was to write to the ceo every time. Apparantly this solves everything as they drop their day to day running of the company for every stakeholder issue.0

Each to their own - when I am in the right, I prefer to confront issues head on and deal with them rather than resorting to underhand tactics. I know that some customer services can be rubbish, but when you deceive them to get what you want, you are then in the wrong yourself, and I like to be able to use the full letter of the law to my advantage.0

I send them an email this morning asking why they can take money from my account yet they won't let me cancel the subscription.
They don't care where the money comes from, just that they get paid. As long as you have cancelled the direct debit with the bank then they can't do anything about it. If they try to reinstate it then they are breaking the law.
As someone else has suggested for your peace of mind write a letter explaining everything and send it recorded delivery to Sky's head office. After that sit back and enjoy your free tv service until they decide to cut it off!
As for writing to the head of a company, a lot of the time it's worth it as they are too far removed to realise that the customers are unhappy. It's the only way they get to find out and hey, they aren't God or special even if some of them think they are!0 -

And I prefer to save my "battles" for ones that are actually worth it. I certainly wouldn't classify cancelling a Sky account in that category.
Each to their own "One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Just cancel DD with bank. If the contract is not in your name then you arent liable for any costs. By trying to cancel you were actually trying to help. Their problem if they ignore you.:j0
