Hi,

Capital Resolve are chasing me for a debt that isnt mine (I have a perfect top of the shop rating). They only have my email address and nothing else, no address or telephone number. My question is can I just ignore this or do I need to contact them to discuss this and possibly take up a lot of my time but then they will also have my address and phone number as I would need to give this I guess as part of data protection to make sure they are talking to the correct person..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure it is legit and not phishing?

Oh wow a fellow MC Pitman fan, I have just ordered his t-shirt "I got coal to dig mate".

Yes it looks legit, got a case number and looks exactly the same format as the examples online, just not sure what they could do with just an email address?

They can`t do anything, if they want to get serious, they will write to you, you never speak to debt collectors on the phone, you do everything in writing only.

They may have an address for you, could be an old one, is that a possibility ?.

First contact is usually by email, as they is no cost, and they are sent in bulk, emails/calls/texts do not have to be acknowledged, only respond if they write to you.

A typical response to a written request for payment would be the "provit" letter we keep in the sticky threads.

They 100% dont have my address to be able to write to me, just worried they will start to add interest and other charges if I ever did have to pay a debt that isnt mine.

Why would you ever pay a debt that isn't yours?

Once a debt defaults, then no further interest or charges can be added, unless the original agreement allows this, most do not.

Debt collectors cannot charge you interest on a debt they do not own.

And as per fatbelly`s post above, why would you pay something that`s not yours ?

I have a really great credit score and wouldnt want to lose it for a couple of hundred pounds. Maybe I am stupid, if I can ignore an email without all the hassle of contacting them I would much prefer this route.

They can't add someone else's debt to your file. Sounds like you're keeping an eye on your reports.

    LOL, yeah, guilty as charged.

Answer = not much with an email address, tell 'em to "grab a can o' lynx and have a bath, the chatty barstewards."

    No sensible person would.

So you would pay 'a couple of hundred pounds' to protect a randomly generated number that has no impact on you and is not used in lending decisions?  With respect, that's nuts.
