Holiday entitlement

My husband works a 4 on 4 off Shift 7am till 7pm. They have to work bank holidays if it falls on their shift with no extra pay. They have just been given next year's holidays and he has 16.5 days 2 of which are to be used for next Christmas.
They get one extra service day for each year they have been there for a maximum of 6 days.
Is this correct or should they get more and then add the service days on?

Yes it's the UK and the shift pattern has only been running for about 15 months, hence why we are questioning it now. They used to work 8 hours a day 5 days a week, got bank holidays off. 20 days holiday minus any required for Christmas and then service days on top!0

4/4 is an average of 3.5 days a week
Statutory minimum 5.6 weeks == 28 days for 4/4 shifts 19.6 in days.
you would expect any service days to be adjusted for shift pattern
max 28+6 = 34 adjusted to (3.5*34/5) == 23.8 days1 -

It has just also occurred to me to ask if you are definitely in the UK, because legally long service additional days should be limited to a maximum of 5, so the 6th day you mention seems odd.
That's new to me. Where is it laid down, please?0 -
one of the largest employers in the UK gives 6 extra days for 10 years service
Table 6: Leave entitlements
Length of service Annual leave and general public holidays On appointment 27 days + 8 days After five years' service 29 days + 8 days After ten years' service 33 days + 8 days
here is some relevant legislation
