Answer = St Mary's Church

We all know that Nottingham is famous as the stomping ground of Robin Hood, and this is your chance to walk in the footsteps of our favourite outlaw! From his secret hideout in Sherwood Forest to the beautiful St Mary's Church where Robin Hood and Maid Marian married – Nottinghamshire is full of hidden treasures and historic legend.

This Christmas you and your family of four will have the chance to win a weekend exploring Nottingham’s most fascinating sites and learn all about the legend of Robin Hood. Enjoy two days of delicious food and drink, tickets to exciting attractions and a gorgeous place to rest your head.

Your weekend begins with the magnificent storytelling of tour guide extraordinaire, Ezekial Bone, as you join his famous Robin Hood Town Tour. On this eye-opening and highly entertaining experience exploring Nottingham’s thrilling history you’ll get to know it all. From stunning architecture, Nottingham’s key sites and hot spots to fascinating stories and horrible facts, he’ll cover it all on his trail of historical facts. Afterwards you’ll be treated to a tasty meal at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which is considered to be the oldest Inn in England!

After an afternoon full of impressions and with a full stomach you’ll venture out into the countryside to the gorgeous Sherwood Hideaway. Here, the whole family will be staying in one of their luxury cedar lodges nestled in the heart of Sherwood Forest. The perfect place to get in the full outlaw spirit, escape to the forest and hideaway in the stunning woodlands.

The next day you will get to explore the woodlands that hold so much history and fascinating stories as you’ll be taken on a guided tour of the historic and unique Sherwood Forest. Immerse yourself in nature and learn all about the 420 hectares of beautiful and precious woodland, the ancient major oak, the legend of Robin Hood and much more - a perfect place for the kids to play and explore nature.

COMPETITION TWO - Sheriff of Nottingham

Answer = Councillor Merlita Bryan

This Christmas you and your partner or a friend will have the chance to win a weekend away for two! Explore Nottingham’s most fascinating sites, learn about the legend of Robin Hood and his rivalry with the sheriff of Nottingham, and live the lavish life a sheriff would have led. Enjoy two days of delicious food and drink, tickets to exciting attractions and a gorgeous place to rest your head.

You will be spending this weekend at the spectacular grounds of Eastwood Hall. The stunning hotel is located in the historic mining-town of Eastwood and provides a perfect atmosphere for a relaxing weekend away. The small town was once the home of one of the most famous writers of the 20th century, D.H. Lawrence. Explore the town and stop by the DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum where you’ll find out more about the famous writer and late Victorian times. Take a tour of his childhood home to see how he lived and find out what inspired his writing.

In the evening you’ll head back to Eastwood Hall for a delicious dinner at the Tempus Bar & Restaurant and indulge on their exquisite British cuisine. Wherever possible, the restaurant’s dishes are prepared with locally and ethically sourced produce.

The following day, venture into the city and visit the revamped Nottingham Castle. Enter the Castle doors and step into medieval Nottingham with interactive games, the atmospheric Rebellion Gallery and be fascinated by all its history. Not only will you get access to the Castle, you will also be able to experience the captivating storytelling of the Robin Hood Adventure and descend into the historic Castle caves.

Last but definitely not least, head to Nottingham’s historic Lace Market and get ready to explore the National Justice Museum. At the 800-year-old county gaol and courtroom you get to experience the, sometimes horrible, history of crime and punishment in Victorian England.
