Carer's Allowance Question

Just about to fill out the claim form for Carer's Allowance and came across this question (It's on page 10 of the form that you fill in on your computer and then print out) It asks: "Have there been other times you have not provided care for this person named on page 6 of this form for 35 hours a week since the date you want to claim from and the 26 weeks before this date?" It's this last bit that has me stumped as I've only just started caring for the person in the last week.

Any advice appreciated

Seems an odd question which doesn't apply anyway because you've only recently started caring for them so you would answer "yes."
Before completing this claim have you checked that this person doesn't claim Severe Disability Premium in another benefit? If they do then claiming Carers allowance will end the SDP.

I am absolutely not an expert but one thing that comes to mind is whether it's possibly a standard question in case the claim is being backdated, to check the claimant was eligible for the whole time they are asking for the backdating.
  • They’re asking they as they can back date payments in some situations
  • I contact the Carer's Allowance unit and they told me to put no in the box. I think it's something to do in case it's being backdated.

They're only in receipt of DLA (Medium Rate)

If that is the Care component it would still entitle them to a Severe Disability Premium in means tested benefits if applicable and they are the only adult in their household.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
