Hi There
There is myself, hubby & 10yr old daughter. I manage on between £25-£35 a week. This includes everything except loo rolls, wash powder, fabric conditioner, kitchen rolls, gravy (huge tub which lasts us a year £4.99)nescafe & teabags as I buy these bulk (i wont scrimp on these-sorry!) when on offer at Makros-so over the year this probably costs me about £2.00 a week on top of the £25-£35. The way I work it is:
(1)Meal planning! We eat well and all HM. Normal meals for us are: roasts chicken/lamb, toad in hole, shepards pie, Spag Bol, fish in breadcrumbs, Chilli & rice, HM Curry & rice, egg & chips, stew, sausage & mash, lamb/pork chops etc. All meals are served with spuds & at least 2 veg.
(2)Online shop so you buy only what you need and to take advantage of any voucher codes etc.
(3)Use Value range as much as possible-I use their tinned toms, tinned sweetcorn, baked beans(only use for cooking-use heinz for toast), kidney beans, marrowfat peas for when we have egg & chips, mayo, vinegar, spuds, orange juice, apple juice, butter, squash, lemonade, flours, raisins, tinned rice pudding, tinned custard, soup, jellies, cornflower, cheese, biscuits, crisps, bread, eggs, yogurts, longlife milk for emergencies,
(4)Normally buy fresh carrots, cabbage and either cauliflower or brocolli each week, but always have frozen sweetcorn, peas & mixed veg to bulk out a meal.
(5)Breakfast are pretty much the same:cereal, toast, egg & toast, bacon butty and at weekend full english.
(6)Lunches are roughly the same-daughter has a packed lunch (roll/sarnie or rice & chicken, LF crisps, fruit, raisins, squash) hubby & I have either a jacket spud, soup or sarnie.
I feel we eat well and 6 months ago I was spending between £60-£100 a week but throwing aload of food away at the end of the week as we were also getting take aways 2-3 nights a week  My cupboards seem to be full constantly.
If you need any help-please PM me.
Regards
Penny-Pincher!!

Hello. Reading your posts has made me hopeful that I can budget £50 a week for myself, husband and two boys, 6 and 3. I think I will start by doing an inventory of all that is in the cupboards and freezer. A good new year day actitivity lol
Next will be a meal plan and shopping list. No more winging it as I go!
Wish me luck!Member 105 of 1% at a time - 23/100 :j0 -
Tra - these were posted in 2005, things have gone up a lot since then. Thought I had better mention it in case you hadn't noticed.
