Heads up, compers! In order to investigate a technical issue, we've had to move some of the older threads from Game Over into a new category called 'Game Over Archives'. It'll be comps from before 2017, so shouldn't have too much impact on your day-to-day Forum experience. Thanks for your patience!

British Breakaway holidays

We have been advised we are runners up in a holiday competition in second place in an Instagram competition we entered last week. We have won two nights in a four star hotel but the voice mail we received says we have to pay and pre book breakfast now. Is this a scam?

December 2010 - a pair of earrings. A silk scarf - both on the daily Spin to Win competition.

If I had won a comp for a holiday and had to pay up front for food I would tell them where to shove it.

I do it just for fun and whatever I win is a bonus

I had the same some months back, never took them up on it, I am not paying for a so called competition win!
The breakfast were £17.99 per person each day ..
That would of cost us the best part of £75........not a comp win really when you look at it that way!

This highlights an interesting quirk of how TrustPilot operates.

There are 7 reviews posted, all with 1*, but this gives a rating of 2.3!

    According to their help page:
"We use a Bayesian average in the calculation, to make sure that a business with fewer reviews starts off with a balanced TrustScore. This means that we automatically include the value of 7 reviews worth 3.5 stars each in all TrustScore calculations. As a business collects more reviews, this becomes a smaller factor in the calculation."

"Bayesian" isn't the word beginning with B that I'd use for their method!!

I had a call and told them to email me because I was busy. It didn't tell them my email address but they already knew it. I guess I must have entered my email address and mobile number with them somewhere! Since paying to have a prize is not really a prize I haven't taken them up on their 'kind' offer of a runners up prize!

I've just had this voicemail! My phone blocked the call as suspected spam. Yeah I'm not feeling paying for breakfast as part of a "runner up prize". Did anyone do it?

I got a call today. I can’t work out how they profit apart from the breakfast being expensive. Would love to know if anyone took them up on this.

Also got this call today..  hung up when they started talking about paying for breakfast as i remembered this post.

Also the background was a super busy call centre. Would a prize winner be called from a call centre?

    Has anyone accepted this?
