I agree with @JKenH I don't expect my batteries to pay for themselves but as I have stated before I like the idea and certainly like the fact that I buy very little from the grid from March to October.
I too am on FIT so the money spent on my batteries has been from my FIT payments.
We differ in one respect .. I did change my 500 W Plasma TV.. but I wanted a bigger one and it did irritate me that it consumed more electricity a day then any other device.3.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch (£3.36 /W).

Solar Immersion installed May 2013, after two Solar Immersion lasting just over the guarantee period replaced with Solic 200... no problems since.
13 Feb 2020 LUX AC 3600 and 3 X Pylon Tech 3.5 kW batteries added...

In an ideal world I would have a proper home storage battery (my DNO is the obstacle to that). Since I did my home energy audit my background consumption has dropped from around 7 kWh last year to 4.6 kWh this year and my import from 3kwh to 2 kWh this time of year. (Figures taken from myEnergi data both years while away on holiday). If the cost of a home storage battery was linear a small battery would provide the best return on investment as it could be cycled every day but of course it isn’t linear as there is the cost of the charge controller and inverter to be factored in so finding the sweet spot is a little more difficult but for some of us the optimum ROI (although perhaps still negative) would perhaps be a battery around 5kWh as for 6 months of the year we probably wouldn’t be able to use more than this.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -
Although 1080p/4K is a nice upgrade , the difference blew my mind when I first got my cheapish LCD tv(my pany was only HD ready). I wasn't even thinking about energy at the time , my Panasonic is connected to the birdbox now as I can't bring myself to chuck it.8kw system spread over 6 roofs , surrounded by trees and in a valley.1

@JKenH mine is a 50" Panasonic, as you say a great TV...
My son says it has some residual value as it has plenty of old style connections e.g. SCART3.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch (£3.36 /W).

I decided to get a battery to reduce my stress levels when my wife does the cooking and washing when the sun isn't shining. I also have the fun of working out how to maximise income from the agile Octopus.
