Expedia refund

I Booked an airline ticket with Expedia but due to Covid restrictions the return part of the ticket was cancelled by the airline. The airline told me to request a refund from Expedia but when I did so Expedia told me it was the airline that must issue the refund. When I contacted the airline again they said that they did not issue refunds for cancelled journeys where a card payment was made to a third party for the ticket. This seems perfectly reasonable to me and in line with normal business practice but Expedia still say they are not responsible for the refund. I would like to get my refund provided the cost of obtaining it will be less than its value. Is that possible?

Expedia should request the refund from the airline, the airline should refund Expedia (assuming it was them that paid the airline) then Expedia should refund you, possibly minus service fees. (Always more complex when you choose to involve a third party rather than book direct)

Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it and will always book direct with the airline in future. I have learnt my lesson. Thanks.

Exactly what Caz says, it's always easier (and faster/cheaper) to book directly with the airline themselves instead of bringing a third party into it for any non-package booking.

  • Also be aware that if Expedia drag their feet you can talk to your bank about a chargeback. Sadly a lot of these brokers are doing a really bad job with refunds. There is a time limit on chargebacks so don't leave it too late.
