Oh congratulations!! I've had no luck with my underwriter at Virgin (I'm struggling to get hold of them as it is) - they're a flat out 'computer says no' - if it's not on the portal, they can't do anything about it.

I'm now going through a broker and we're using Nationwide, who have said there is no portal requirement as long as I have an EWS1 form and cover letter.

As an update to this story, Virgin Money had a call with the chartered engineer who signed off on my EWS1 form and the case went to the senior underwriters team. After a solid week I've just heard back I've received a full mortgage offer!
    HUZZAH!!

That being said, somewhere along the line their valuator messed up the service charge and changed it to be £9 / year MORE which caused Virgin to... lend me a grand less?! But rather than go back and forth another 10 business days I accepted the offer.
Good it worked out in the end. Found virgin money to have been straight forward but flats add more complications sometimes.
  • I just wanted to say thank you for starting this thread and posting about it. The exact same thing just happened to me, 6 weeks after starting a mortgage application with Virgin Money, right in the final stages before offer. We googled and I used this thread to cite that there had been precedent to them making an exception, as they initially denied it was worthy on an exception.

I've just had my mortgage offer through!

Thank you for starting this thread - it's saved me so much money and I'm so grateful!
