  • If anything like the local authority where I work, Reminder Letters don't go out until around 17th or 18th of the month, and you then have 7 days to bring account up to date.

  • Should be OK but my local authority (Macclesfield) only give two reminders and then if you're late for a third time you lose the right to pay by instalments and have to pay the full balance.

In our dept we send out reminder after around three weeks but it depends on where the reminder run falls in relation to the payment date - if you don't pay just before a reminder run you may find that you get a reminder within a week or so of the instalment date.

If you have paid on time for the rest of the year then the worst you will get is a reminder to bring the payments up to date.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
