hi this is a bit of a naughty query..ive got a council tax bill of 212.00 due on the 1/1/08 and ive already paid 100.00 and due to the balance been due on new years day i would like to pay the rest of it late...how long do they give you before sending out a reminder?? obviously dont wanna get in any court trouble

If anything like the local authority where I work, Reminder Letters don't go out until around 17th or 18th of the month, and you then have 7 days to bring account up to date.

Should be OK but my local authority (Macclesfield) only give two reminders and then if you're late for a third time you lose the right to pay by instalments and have to pay the full balance.

thanks, i didnt mean that late..was onl on about 2 weeks at the most

In our dept we send out reminder after around three weeks but it depends on where the reminder run falls in relation to the payment date - if you don't pay just before a reminder run you may find that you get a reminder within a week or so of the instalment date.

If you have paid on time for the rest of the year then the worst you will get is a reminder to bring the payments up to date.
