Nile, once they get a little more length I will going for my first manicure!! A manicure may be a bit (gay) for a man but I don't care, it's the least I deserve after a life time of finger nail abuse

Bingo, that's my concern!! I'm woried incase I have long tips and short pink bit's. I am reassured by your acknowledgement that the nails (pink bit) have grown in length.
I know which bit you mean now Tony.I shouldn't worry.....it will grow back.My aunt bit her nails for years too and her pink nail beds were nearly non-existent but she stopped and the nail bed did recover.....it took a long time but it did happen. To look at her nails now you would never know she was a nail biter.

Hey there, congratulations on the nail growing!! :) Make sure you are pushing your cuticles back as your nails are growing (or wait till you have your manicure!).

Make sure you go to a nice beauty parlour for your manicure, not somewhere like Usa Star Nails!!!!!

Well it's been over 3 months now and boy are my nails getting long. I have almost totally broken my "Delete" key as I keep striking the wrong keys with my tips.

I've not yet been brave enough to see a manicurist but have opted to try different styles myself (metal nail file).......

Squared tips didn't work well, so I guess i'll be sticking with rounded tips. Once my cuticles & nail beds have firmly established themselves I will make an appoinment.

    Well done Tony H.

An emery board is a better option than a metal file. A metal file can be too rough on the nail and cause damage.;)

Most supermarkets and chemist shops sell emery boards.

in a range of sizes and colours as well. I am never without one, keep one in my purse, and if I find a nail starting to catch I will file wherever I am! Anything is better than biting my nails, which is what happens if I don't keep them smooth at all times.

A metal file gives a much better finish than emery, my thumb nail is like a razor blade!! icon11.gif

Thanks to everyone who has posted here.I am in the same position , have stopped biting and the nails are growing back nicely but same as Tony my "pink bits" are only 3/4 of the way up my fingers and i was worriedthat my nails would always look odd  i didnt realise they grew from the bottom!
I am reassured that one day they will look normal if i can keep from munching at them!!! lol
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • I have managed to stop biting my nails, quite a while ago infact. But now I nibble the skin round them  can anyone suggest a way to stop me doing this??
