I'm considering varifocals - are there pitfalls, of only having single vision in your life?

Options
I've had my eyes checked and it turns out I now need glasses for closeup, as well intermedia and distance.
Answer: varifocals.  A friend has had them over 15 years.
Is it better to go for the top end, as less blur on the edge, or do middle range suffice?

Example.  https://www.reglaze-glasses-direct.com/ - these do varied different levels of varifocials, from lower range to "Elite HD".

I don't know whether to go for a reading and standard pair.  Or just jump in and get a spare pair with Vari's.

Apart from the initial "getting use to them", are there pitfalls?  Is it easy to order them online, as you do save a good £100+.

Hope someone can help.

A certain amount depends on your prescription.
if none of your numbers are high you might find mid range perfectly acceptable.
asda do a basic range for £45.
I got varifocal sunglasses with light lenses and coatings for £45 and they are perfectly acceptable.

it also depends what you used you glasses for,
I personally don’t find varifocals comfortable for a long duration (you need to look down or hold your head up). So I wear reading glasses for work all day on a computer.

on the other hand varifocals are useful for switching e.g. driving and using the dashboard.

you may not need to go to varifocals immediately, I delayed it a couple a years

I would recommend Asda if your prescription is not too bad.
Another option is Specsavers who will swap your varifocals for single vision if you dont get on with them.

Personally I would not go online for varifocals.
The lenses need to Positioned correctly more so than single vision.
this is especially true if you have astigmatism as well (a number in the cyl column).

Whenever I have looked into buying varifocals online I have found that they only offer the low to mid range ones.

I have had varifocals for years from asda and find them perfectly acceptable. But last year, because I wanted a Pru Leith range frame I bought from an independant, the glasses were larger. I have struggled with these expensive glasses and lenses to the extent I had the lenses replaced at further cost. This was better but not great. So then I bought a pair ofintermediate and a pair of distance separate glasses (less than £20 each) for specific use. I read without glasses as short sighted.
I would recommend trying the cheap varifocals when Asda have an offer on, certainly I will go back to them next time I need a pair.
